The Arizona Wildcats easily beat UTSA 38-13 in front of 41, 661 fans at Arizona Stadium and moved to 3-0 on the young season.

Denker finished 14 for 21 for 158 yards and a touchdown through the air and added 90 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns on the ground. Carey totaled 128 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in the UA’s victory.

The Wildcats now get a bye week before traveling to Washington later this month to open Pac-12 play.

After UTSA hit a 34-yard field goal on its opening drive, Arizona engineered an 11-play, 82-yard drive on its first possession to take back the lead.

Denker threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to true freshman Samajie Grant to give the Arizona its first lead of the game. Grant, a Compton, Calif. , native had four catches for 46 yards on the opening drive.

He entered the game with one catch for 12 yards in two games.

Free safety Jourdon Grandon then got the ball back for the Arizona Wildcats when he intercepted UTSA quarterback Eric Soza and returned it 16 yards to the Roadrunners’ 34-yard line.

After two carries from Ka’Deem Carey that actually moved the Wildcats back a yard, Denker scrambled on third down and took off for a 35-yard score.

The senior quarterback, serving as a game captain for tonight’s game, was seven for nine for 88 yards in the first quarter.

Kicker Jake Smith increased the UA’s lead to 17-6 when he connected on a 23-yard field goal.

UTSA responded with a field goal of its own. Kicker Sean Ianno hit from 43 yards out to make it 17-6.

Carey extended the lead late in the half when he scored from four yards out with 2: 12 remaining. Arizona got the ball back after a quick stop, but didn’t score again before the half.

The Wildcats have now outscored opponents 83-12 in the first half through three games.

Denker scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown on the UA’s first possession of the third quarter to make it 31-6.

The Wildcats scored early in the fourth to make it 38-6 courtesy of a seven-yard score from Carey.

UTSA scored its first touchdown of the game later in the quarter on a four-yard rush from running back David Glasco II.
